Live and study in Valencia
Valencia Province: Sagunto
This town is just 25 km away from Valencia. Sagunto was the scene of the battles between the Romans and Carthaginians and was the site of Hannibal's first assault, the siège of Sagunto and the beginning of the Second Punic war. But Sagunto is an eclectic city showing both Roman and Moorish influences. Evidence of Roman origins can be detected in the presence of the beautiful Teatro Romano, which could host up to 6,000 people. Nowadays it can still be used, because it has undergone restoration and if you're lucky you may even be able to catch a performance. Either way, it is worth a visit, if only for the wonderful landscape surrounding it and the view of a castle residing high up on the cliffs.
As for Arabic remains, Arabic walls surround the town and a stroll through la Judería, the towns Jewish quarter, will take you back to ancient times. Some of the best-preserved architecture can be found in this area; from the little houses to the winding streets that criss cross between them, this is undoubtedly Sagunto's most charming area.
